After working closely as a legal advisor to Alerus Financial for many years, Jay officially joined Alerus in 2012 to assist with merger and acquisition strategies, provide legal advice, and oversee risk management.
Jay's impressive legal career spans over 25 years with work in many areas of the financial services industry including: commercial banks, trust companies, registered investment advisors, securities broker/dealers, mortgage brokers, and commercial and consumer lenders. He specializes in bank mergers and acquisitions, banking powers and regulation, and regulatory strategy and strategic planning.
Prior to joining Alerus, Jay previously was a partner with Dorsey & Whitney; and before that, a partner with Lindquist & Vennum. He received a bachelor's degree from Iowa State University, and graduated cum laude with law degree from the University of Minnesota Law School.
Jay currently serves on the Board of Advisors for the University of Minnesota Law School, is a board member of the Minnesota Twins Community Fund, and provides pro bono legal counsel to the Hobey Baker Memorial Award Foundation. He has also held past board management member and chair positions with various branches of the YMCA of Metropolitan Minneapolis; currently, he is a board member for the Blaisdell Branch.
